Learning Support

Student Support

One of the hallmarks of a MAA education is our commitment to meeting every student where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally. MAA strives to help students become lifelong learners who can think critically, collaborate effectively, and adapt with confidence in a rapidly changing world.

As the world evolves, so too must education. MAA’s approach ensures that students are not only equipped with essential academic skills but are also guided to develop resilience, curiosity, and a deep sense of self-awareness—qualities that prepare them to thrive in the face of future challenges.

Learning Support Program

At MAA, the Learning Support Team—comprising the Learning Specialist and Assistant Learning Specialist—provides individualized guidance, instructional support, and academic enrichment for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. The team works closely with classroom teachers, parents, and, when needed, outside professionals to ensure that each student experiences a cohesive and supportive educational journey.

The Learning Specialist oversees all aspects of the Learning Support Program, including working closely with the Assistant Learning Specialist, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include developing and managing Learning Plans, evaluating students who require additional support, and creating schedules that integrate support within the classroom setting. The Learning Specialist provides direct assistance to students, tracks progress, and maintains ongoing communication with families and faculty. Additional duties include coordinating evaluations, guiding parents through the IEP or outside testing process, and ensuring consistent follow-through and collaboration throughout each student’s learning journey.

Our Learning Specialist team is trained in a range of evidence-based reading interventions, including the Orton-Gillingham Approach, Wilson Reading System, and Lindamood-Bell programs—ensuring that students receive instruction tailored to their unique learning profiles.

Academic Enrichment and Faculty Support

In addition to direct student support, the Learning Specialist Team provides valuable resources and guidance for MAA’s faculty. They:

  • Manage the school’s academic tools and platforms, including Lexia (K–3), IXL (1–6), IXL Diagnostics, and Seesaw (PreS–2)
  • Review and enhance curriculum through teacher collaboration and meetings
  • Coordinate Summer Reading and Math curriculum and provide ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Serve as a resource for instructional strategies

Through collaboration, consistency, and compassionate expertise, the Learning Support Team ensures that every MAA student is both challenged and supported—empowered to grow as a confident learner with a strong foundation for success in secondary school and beyond.
