MAA’s band and violin players kicked off the afternoon by showcasing their musical skills. The wonderful performance demonstrated our students’ commitment and countless hours of practice both at school and at home. Watch the videos below to see their talent for yourself. Following the band and violin concert, MAA’s students were recognized for their achievements this school year. The Mount Alvernia High School Scholarship and Book Awards were given to two fifth-grade girls who exemplified kindness, compassion, and dedication to their studies. Students received Library Awards, and the Recycling Award, which was given to a third-grade student by Casella Waste Systems. A third-grader’s drawing and recycling slogan were chosen from hundreds of submissions to be one of thirteen winners to be included in the next Casella Waste System Calendar. Mrs. McIntosh and Mrs. Marinelli presented a special Art Award to three students who our beloved Mrs. Quinn selected for recognition. Students were also recognized for their participation in afterschool activities and our fifth-graders presented the state and national rewards they received for the STEM Fun Fair.

 

This year, MAA’s third, fourth, and fifth-grade classes participated in the Noetic Math Contest, a national mathematics contest for elementary and middle school students. The goal of the competition is to encourage students’ interest in math, to develop their problem-solving skills, and to inspire them to excel in math. More than 34,000 students representing 776 schools across the country took part in this spring’s contest and quite a few MAA students were awarded National Honor Roll title by scoring in the top 10% for their grade as well as the National Honorable Mention for scoring in the top 50% for their grade.
