Spring Concert and End of the Year Awards

A year’s worth of hard work was on display yesterday, with the MAA band showcasing their talent. The band played a variety of toe-tapping songs, including: “Merrily We Roll,” a theme by Beethoven, “Royals,” and “Star Wars,” just to name a few.  A big thanks to Paul Effman Music for their dedication and for sharing their love for music with us. We are so proud of all students’ hard work and what they have accomplished this year.

Speaking of impressive accomplishments, Mrs. Maria Lyons presented the entire school with an award for excellence in Environmental Education and School Practices from Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Matthew Beaton. Mrs. Lyons and her environmental commissioners traveled to the State House in May to receive the award.

Two exceptional Fifth Grade girls received Mount Alvernia High School Book Awards yesterday. The awards recognize two female students who have demonstrated academic achievement and embody integrity, initiative, compassion, and leadership. Mrs. Quinn also announced the art awards recipients for this year. These budding artists exhibited imagination and the ability to incorporate principles of design into their work.

Additionally, participants in sports and clubs from basketball, rugby, fencing, golf, cross country, karate, and yoga to legos, cheerleading, floor hockey, singing club…and more were also recognized at the ceremony. Director of Technology and resident karate instructor, Mr. Darling, even broke a wooden board with his hand to demonstrate what one can learn in karate if he or she is disciplined. We are blessed to have so many fantastic after school activities and phenomenal people leading them!

Our student council officers and members, as well as our mascots and those responsible for raising and lowering our flags, were thanked for their service to the school this year. Thank you so much for your school pride and dedication to making MAA a better place!
