Mrs. Megan Abbott

Years in Education: 25 years

Years at MAA: 24 years

Why I teach: My mom is a retired teacher, and I  have wonderful memories of time spent as her helper. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become a teacher! The MAA community has become a second family to me, and I am especially grateful for the partnership I have with Mrs. Mazza, my Grade 1 partner teacher.

Together my grade partner and I enjoy reading each child’s writer’s journal where they are encouraged to express their ideas creatively using writing and illustrations. Watching our Grade 1 students improve their reading and fluency skills through our Reader’s Theater presentations is always a proud moment for us. Connecting our first graders with their sixth-grade buddies throughout the year expands their world, and this connection leads them to become part of the sixth-grade spring play! First grade is a time to watch the children become independent thinkers and workers. We encourage them to learn something new every day and have fun while doing so!
