School Librarian
Mount Alvernia Academy (MAA), a Franciscan Catholic Elementary school (Preschool through
Grade Six), is seeking a full-time school librarian for the 2020-2021 academic year. Based on
MAA’s mission, the school librarian has the role of working with the community of learners to
support the function of the library, to develop research and literacy skills, to uphold digital
citizenship through proper uses of technology, and to engage students in the growth of literacy
skills while fostering a love of reading. The librarian works with the school faculty to support its
educational program. The school librarian is responsible for managing circulation and
organizing book fairs, maintaining the inventory of materials and books, and guiding students to
resources for research and pleasure reading in collaboration with the school faculty. MAA is
seeking a flexible, imaginative teacher who plans effectively and collaboratively as well as has a
respect for and love of children. Ability to enhance a Preschool - 6 curriculums by creating
lesson plans that stand-alone or can be integrated into grade-level curriculum is imperative.
Strong writing and oral communication skills, professional demeanor, and a sense of humor are
important characteristics.

This position is full time, Monday through Friday, from the arrival of students through the
completion of dismissal. The school librarian reports to the principal.

Below is a list of the qualifications and experience:
• Minimum of Bachelor of Arts in Education
• Elementary/Library Certification by the Massachusetts Department of Education
• Minimum of two years’ experience in the educational field
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Technology skills
