It’s senior service project time for Catholic Schools around the Boston area, and a group of MAA’s class of 2012 didn’t have to think twice about what they were going to do.

“Sapere Aude!” (Dare to know). The Enlightenment Philosopher, Immanuel Kant, dared his students to forge their own intellectual path and follow their own reason. Although Kant penned his call to action almost 300 years ago, it still has relevance and force to this day, just ask Mount Alvernia Academy Fifth Grade teacher, Katherine Michalik, who has made Kant’s saying her motto.

Mary Matero, '17 is Catholic and lives in West Roxbury and Mareyama Jalloh, is Muslim and lives in East Boston. The girls met last fall during orientation at John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science in Roxbury.

April Fools Day is a week-long celebration of chicanery here at MAA. Mr. Matthew Darling, MAA’s Technology Teacher, has kept a week-long joke going in his classroom.

Books have a unique power to transform and move us. For Mount Alvernia Academy Librarian, Ms. Janine Kayser, Dr. Seuss puts it best: “The more you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” “I love that quote,” she smiled.
