After School Enrichment & Athletics

After-School Activities

At Mount Alvernia Academy, we offer a wide variety of enriching after-school programs designed to complement our students’ academic journey and nurture their individual interests. Open to students in Kindergarten through Grade 6, these programs engage more than 75% of our student body each year.

Each activity is thoughtfully selected to provide meaningful opportunities for growth, creativity, and collaboration. Through participation, students explore new passions, develop skills, build friendships, and express their unique talents.

Clubs meet weekly for one hour after school, offering students a consistent and engaging extension of their school day. Our offerings change seasonally, allowing students to experience a dynamic range of opportunities throughout the year. Programs have included Art Club, Chess Club, Drama Club, Legos, and more—ensuring that every student has the chance to learn, lead, and thrive beyond the classroom.

Student Council
Student Council is composed of elected representatives from Grades 3 through 6 who are dedicated to serving the school and the broader community. These engaged and motivated students develop essential leadership skills through planning, communication, and collaboration with their peers, faculty, and administration.

In living out the mission of MAA, Student Council members share their gifts and talents to make a meaningful difference in the world around them. Student Council members play an active and valued role in Academy life. Their leadership has inspired and supported a variety of initiatives, including school liturgies, the Annual Veterans Day observance, the Thanksgiving Food Drive, and supporting the school’s recycling efforts.

Through successful fundraising efforts—such as the Outstanding October Calendar Drive—they help fund community service projects and student activities throughout the year. By modeling service, responsibility, and compassion, Student Council members grow as leaders who recognize the needs of others and take initiative to create positive change. The MAA Student Council truly reflects the Franciscan values that define our community.
Athletics

At Mount Alvernia Academy, athletics are an essential part of our commitment to educating the whole child—fostering teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit. Students in Grades 1–6 are invited to join our Basketball Team, which practices and competes weekly against local Catholic schools. Guided by Coach Shannon, players develop fundamental skills, learn the value of sportsmanship, and build confidence through teamwork and healthy competition.

Students in Grades 3–6 may also participate in our Cross Country Team, which holds weekly practices and meets throughout the season. This program encourages endurance, goal-setting, and resilience as students challenge themselves individually while supporting one another as a team.

Through participation in athletics, students strengthen both mind and body, cultivate leadership and self-discipline, and carry the values of teamwork, respect, and determination into all areas of school life.

From Chess Club to Cross Country, our faculty, staff, and volunteers work hard to provide a holistic education even after the final bell has rung. Click below to experience the MAA difference first-hand!
